USDA Prime Black Angus Tenderloin Roast 5 lbs. - $179.
We Made Ten Filet Mignons, 8 oz. - $18

We purchased the USDA Prime Tenderloin Roast on sale for $179 and made ten of our own 8 oz. Filet Mignon steaks for $18. We really did nothing but add a little salt and pepper to the steaks and put them on a very hot grill to get the sear marks. Then we let them bake until they reached an internal temperature of 110 degrees. We let them rest for a good 25 minutes. During that time the internal temperature rose to 128 degrees. This is what it looked like after the juices fully redistributed throughout the steak. Notice there are no juices on the plate.

Where are the juices you may ask? They are in your mouth for every delicious bite you and your guests will savor like yo Filet Mignon you've ever had before. Today, the USDA Prime Filet Mignon Barrel cut sells for $33 each, so we feel we got excellent value at $17.90.

Bucket List Steak.  Just read the title of this again and give it the respect it deserves, then thank us for telling you to subscribe to your favorite online steak vendor's emails. Pat's loves to send out email specials, and sometimes the best deals are only for their frequent customers. At 25% off, these steaks were $26, such a good deal; we bought ten of them for storage.

When we bought these, it was the dead of winter, so grilling was out of the question. We pan-seared them in a butter-ghee blend until the outside was crispy, then finished it off in the oven until they reached an internal temperature of 118 degrees. They rested for 22 minutes, where the internal temperature rose to 129 degrees. You can see the juicy results not bleeding on the plate, and surrounded by an amazing crust. Salt and pepper was the only addition to the party.

Yes, we would buy them again. And again, and again, and again.

Custom USDA Prime Burger Blends

We have enjoyed four of the six burger blends available. While they are all outstanding, we rated the four we had in this order:
  1. Dry-Aged Burger Blend will cost a little more because the burger is made with 50- day dry-aged prime rib, chuck, brisket, and short loin.
  2. Brisket Burger Blend is made from whole briskets with some shoulder clod and chuck. It is probably the fattiest of the burger blends, so be aware when grilling. 
  3. Original Blend consists of Black Angus flat iron and short rib beef.
  4. Short Rib Burger Blend is ground from short rib, brisket, chuck, and the shoulder clod, which is the foundation of Texas BBQ.
These burgers are not made from leftover butcher trimmings, but actual steaks making them a great value and burger experience.

Pat LaFrieda Steaks are also available through Amazon Fresh, if you are lucky enough to have Amazon Fresh deliver to your zip code. Here, you will find USDA Prime and USDA Choice beef. Choice is not available at the LaFrieda Website.

When you buy from the Pat LaFrieda website, the label says this steak is personally prepared for you, and they print your name on the label. To us, it seemed like a marketing gimmick, but now we believe it to be true.

The USDA Prime NY Strip we purchased through Amazon Fresh was obviously not custom butchered for us, and we could tell. We had to trim some excess fat, which is more of a personal taste than a mistake, but we did find a layer of silver skin we removed. No seasoning can penetrate the silver skin, and since the steak was Prime, we knew there would be enough marbling in the steak without sacrificing moisture or taste. And we were right. The steak was delicious, as shown here, placed with Macaroni and Cheese and Broccolini.

St. Louis ribs are a great value, as compared to baby back ribs if you can do some butchering yourself. We'll save how to do that for our recipe section, which is a story for another day. Today, we'll tell you about these fantastic ribs from Pat LaFrieda. We did buy them through Amazon Fresh. They do not appear on the Pat Lafrieda website, and that is a shame. These ribs are very meaty, with plenty of good eats on either side of the bone. We serve the baby back ribs to our guests and keep the "brisket" part we cut away for ourselves.

These are smoked in the traditional competition method, long and slow. The extra meatiness of the ribs absorbs a lot of smoke flavor. We cut ours in three-rib serving portions. They took about ten hours for us to make them, and about ten minutes to disappear from the platters. Obviously, we highly recommend them, and for about $100 we gave our guests an amazing appetizer, making them a great value too.
Our Conclusion

Pat LaFrieda's offers it distinguished clientele the same high-quality, USDA Prime beef associated with the best restaurants in Manhattan. We consider it an honor to have the opportunity to enjoy these amazing steak experiences with family, friends, or to hoard for our own personal consumption. One should not be surprised to find the cost of these treasures near the top of what one might be willing to pay for a bucket list experience, much less to serve in an entertaining situation.

We have some terrific discount and purchase incentives by subscribing to the company's email program. In fact, most of the purchases we make are done in this manner. It is much easier to quickly reach for ten steaks in the freezer when you find yourself with some good friends coming over than it is to run to the Internet and buy for a specific event.

Value is what you get in return for what you spend, and when you serve Pat LaFrieda steaks to people who what they are eating, your value exceeds the cost of the product, and has to be supplemented with the joy your fellow diners will experience, as most of them are likely to be having their first LaFrieda USDA Prime steak. 

This may not be where you start working on your steak bucket list, but you can't finish it until you've been here.

One of the fondest memories I have of any person on this planet is the time when my then-fiance purchased two of the Pat LaFrieda Tomahawk Chops for me as an anniversary present. We used to go to American Cut in Midtown, and it seemed I always sat next to someone who was having a giant Tomahawk Chop Ribeye. You talk about your steak bucket list, that was at the top of mine. I could never pull the trigger to order one but would always swear I would the next I went there.

The Tomahawk Chops I had from Pat's were divine, which might be the only word to describe it. Heavenly, maybe, God-like, certainly, but I'll stick with divine. As fate would have it, my engagement didn't last as long as my memory of eating these steaks. Maybe I should have shared one with her?

So far I just the original blend and short rib blend 8 oz. burgers. I absolutely love burgers. I am always searching for the best burger to cook at home. My search is over. I have purchased meat from Allen Brothers in Chicago and their prime steak burgers are pretty good but I will be purchasing all future burgers from Pat LaFrieda. Ground fresh for you the day they are shipped! Absolutely the best burgers I have ever had! Well worth the money!

I ordered the New York Strip and burgers. I thought the New York Strip was as good as any I have ever had, It just melts in your mouth, and it is big enough you may make into two.
